Abstract

Students in the Academic Qualification Fulfillment Program (PKA) PG-PAUD are adult learners with professional experience as teachers, but are generally unfamiliar with using academic Indonesian in higher education contexts. This study aims to describe the role of pedagogical communication in transforming students' academic language skills in Indonesian language learning. The study used a qualitative approach with a case study method on 51 students in the PKA PG-PAUD affirmative class who attended online lectures for ten meetings. Data were collected through observation, interviews, student reflections, document analysis, and learning documentation. The research instruments included observation sheets, interview guides, reflection sheets, and learning documentation. Data were analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing techniques. The results showed that pedagogical communication was implemented through five main strategies: adaptive, humanistic, dialogical, corrective-constructive, and transformative. At the beginning of the learning process, students showed high participation, but language use was still dominated by everyday conversational styles. Through modeling, constructive feedback, academic dialogue, and exercises in critical reading, paraphrasing, and scientific writing, students were able to adapt their language use to the academic context. These changes are demonstrated by students' abilities to differentiate language varieties, compose summaries, paraphrases, outlines, and simple scientific papers. This study concludes that pedagogical communication plays a role as a mechanism for transforming academic language skills for PKA PG-PAUD affirmative students.
